Playlist: Listen, my friends! ~ April 2012

April 4, 2012

In the words of Moby Grape… listen, my friends! Yes, it’s the (hopefully) monthly playlist presented by George’s Journal just for you good people.

There may be one or two classics to be found here dotted in among different tunes you’re unfamiliar with or have never heard before – or, of course, you may’ve heard them all before. All the same, why not sit back, listen away and enjoy…

³ Performed here on the anarchic BBC sitcom The Young Ones in 1982; the band also appeared performing this hit on Top Of The Pops the same year with, on the screen behind them, the face not of Jackie Wilson, but of 1982’s World Darts Champion Jocky Wilson, who sadly died last month (see here)

This classic video features puppet interpretations of both the band and famous figures that appeared in the classic ITV satire Spitting Image (1984-96)

5 The socially conscious US hit that was used as backing music as football results and tables were revealed on the BBC’s Saturday afternoon sports magazine Grandstand (1958-2007)
